Personal Growth and Treatment Action
Part of mental health treatment is in some way becoming better than who you are now. This can come in many forms including having a new insight into a problem, understanding that a feeling you are experiencing has some origin - whether biological or caused by a situation or personal history and accepting that it can be used to direct you to a better state.
If you are depressed, your current feelings are not ones that you want to have but in some way they are trying to preserve you. Although the depression will sap your energy and drain your motivation, it is clearly indicating you are not in a good place and it is time to do something different. This will likely sound difficult if not impossible, but taking action will make all the difference. A small outdoor excursion on a bright day changes you. It is the start. If you try too much, your body and mind will rebel against you and shut you back down, but just a little more than usual and the change is underway. While it my seem way too simple, some movement is better than none. As a clinician, my role is to not let you stop where you don't want to be. To assist you in growing rather than staying. I hope you give me the opportunity. I have gained so much from others that it is with gratitude I give back.
